This course, designed exclusively for the Wilcom School audience, bridges the gap between digitizing and laser fabrication. Learn how to take your existing design files, optimize them for laser workflows, and produce high-margin products like acrylic keychains, leather patches, wooden signage, and dye-sublimation ready templates—all using the same design discipline you apply to embroidery.

Course Curriculum

Module 1: The Hybrid Decorator’s Workstation

Introduction to LightBurn: Interface walkthrough and workspace setup.
The Embroidery-to-Laser Pipeline: Understanding when to use a laser file (vector) vs. an embroidery file (DST/PES).
Hardware Communication: Setting up your laser cutter (CO2, Diode, or Fiber) within LightBurn; understanding origin points and machine safety.

Module 2: Artwork Preparation & Vector Mastery

Importing Artwork: Working with SVG, DXF, AI, and PNG files. (We will show you how to prep art in Wilcom or Illustrator for laser clarity).
Vector Optimization: Using LightBurn’s node editing tools to clean up messy client logos for a professional cut.
Trace Image: Converting raster logos (JPEG/PNG) into crisp vector cut paths automatically.

Module 3: The "3 P's" of Laser Processing: Power, Passes, & Precision

Speed & Power Settings: Creating a material library. How to calibrate for wood, acrylic, leather, stainless steel (for tumblers), and fabric.
Scanning vs. Cutting: Understanding the difference between engraving (raster) and cutting (vector) modes.
The "Weld" & "Boolean" Tools: Combining shapes to reduce production time and create keychains, tags, and patches efficiently.
